He is here! Fredrick Trey Larsen was born on 1/26/13 at 11:10pm. Trey was 6 lbs. 15 oz. and 20.5 inches long. I woke up that Saturday morning not feeling well. I told Scott I was going back to bed to snuggle Cohen. Well, I later woke up at around 11:00am and as I went into the kitchen to talk to Scott my water broke. At first, I told Scott, "Whoa, I'm peeing myself!" My water didn't completely break, but it was ruptured. I had a hard time at first believing it was my water. I was worried about going to the hospital just in case it wasn't my water. However, contractions and that started right away. Scott was certain it was my water, so we prepared to go to the hospital. About 2 or so hours later, we left for St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, Idaho. We dropped Cohen off on the way at Uncle Rob and Aunt Melody's house to stay the night. When we got to the hospital, they put me in triage to verify it was actually my water before they admitted me. After they admitted me, they put me in to a labor and delivery room. We just loved our nurse. She was awesome. I progressed rather quickly compared to Cohen. I was at a 5 or 6 and my contractions were less than 5 minutes apart when they told me it was my last chance to get an epidural if I was going to. So, I decided to go that route. When it finally came time to push, little Trey came out in 2 sets of pushes. It was fast! Nothing like with Cohen :) After we got to spend our time together, they took Trey to do is weight and that and found he was really jittery. The nurse took his blood sugar and it came back at a 24. He struggled with his sugar all night long. Trey's pediatrician decided to admit him to the NICU that Sunday morning to get an IV going and try to stabilize him. I was devastated. However, they assured me that hypoglycemia happens occasionally in babies and it was a temporary condition once they get him on track. Trey just didn't meet any of the typical reasons a baby is hypoglycemic. He was a mystery as to why he wasn't born with those extra reserves in his liver to help with his sugars. Trey had to go to NICU since that was the only place they have IVs and monitor the babies. Trey was one of the healthier babies down there. I had to go down every 3 hours for feedings. Once his sugars started to stabilize, they slowly weened him off his IV. Once he was completely off his IV, he had to maintain his sugars all on his own for 24 hours before they would discharge him. We were in the NICU from Sunday to Wednesday. We finally got discharged at 3:30pm Wednesday afternoon. It was a very trying time, but we are so happy to take home healthy baby Trey.
...It is amazing how fast you start remembering the pain of the contractions :)
There he is! Man, he looks so much like Cohen. It was kind of weird when I first saw him :)
This is Trey down in the NICU. They were getting him all hooked up and ready. Poor guy was poked in his heels every three hours for his sugars. His poor heels were black and blue and swollen :(
This is the room Trey and I got to stay in all by ourselves in the NICU. They try and accommodate nursing mothers to help with feedings. I loved all of their staff! They were awesome!!
Finally, ready to go home!
Cohen got to meet Trey for the first time on Wednesday. No one under 18 was allowed in the NICU. It was hard on poor Cohen. He was a trooper.
He was excited to receive the surprise that Trey brought him for being his big brother! He thought that was awesome!
We love our family!
